Enjoy the scent of the sea in Myanmar!
Flight from Yangon to Dawei. After pick-up from the airport and hotel check-in, we will have a look around to get a picture of Dawei’s daily life and famous sights.
Dawei is the capital of the Tanintharyi division in the south of Myanmar, formerly known as Tavoy. It was one of the first cities where the English settled after the 1st Anglo-Burmese in 1826. As a result, the town has a long history and picturesque colonial-era buildings.
On our tour, we will have a little excursion into traditional Southern Myanmar medicine. A family-owned cashew nut business with its ever smiling workers will show us how much work it is to peel one nut (seasonal). We will stop by old colonial buildings and get to know what their purpose was. The day tour is also about getting in touch with locals. Stop wherever you want and ask whatever you’d like to know.
If time permits, we will visit the Tanintharyi Regional museum in the evening. The museum has a collection of bronze coins, vases, portraits, and large ancient wooden Buddha images. It also has a history of the Moken, who are sometimes called “Sea Gypsies.”
We finish the day with a walk along Dawei’s authentic river front. Watch the locals playing the traditional Burmese football game called “chin lone,” where players circle up to keep a cane ball with special moves off the ground.
Overnight in Dawei.
